Ark100 team make successful half-marathon debut

The Ark100 team piled on the miles and pulled in the pounds at Sunday's Destination Basingstoke Phillips Half-Marathon.

A 30-strong group of runners took part as the charity fielded its first-ever team in the event, which was marking its fifth anniversary.

So far, the team members have raised more than £5,400 – a superb effort – and it is hoped that the final total will be boosted by some post-event donations.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications for Ark Cancer Centre Charity, was one of the runners who took part, and he was delighted with the team effort.

He said: “I am grateful to all of our great Ark100 runners, and everyone who has sponsored us. The aim was for everyone who took part to raise £100 and most of us have reached and exceeded that target, which is great.

“A lot of training and effort has been put in by our team members over the last few months, and I am delighted that we have achieved such a great result.

“Not only have the runners raised money towards the £5million fundraising appeal, but their presence in this high-profile local event has increased awareness of the charity and the Cancer Treatment Centre campaign.”

Mark added: "I would like to thank Destination Basingstoke, the borough council, sponsors and supporters of the half-marathon for putting on an excellent event, and also the great team from Phillips Solicitors for hosting our runners.

"On behalf of the Ark100 team, I would also like to thank all the marshals and other volunteers, and the great spectators, whose help and encouragement was a massive boost to all the runners on this testing course."
