AXA Wealth staff give a vote of support to Ark Cancer Centre Charity

AXA Wealth’s employees have vowed to make a stand against cancer with a two-year programme of fundraising activities for Ark Cancer Centre Charity .

Employees at the Basingstoke-based company were first invited to nominate local charities they’d like to see the company support for the next two years, with the final four going to a company-wide vote - and Ark Cancer Centre Charity won the support of the majority of employees.

Staff at the major employer will now be playing their part in raising funds for the charity's £5million appeal which will help to make the new cancer treatment centre a reality in the Basingstoke area.

Paul Riddell, who looks after corporate responsibility and communications at AXA Wealth, said: “Receiving treatment can be a difficult experience in itself and currently many local cancer patients have to travel to Guildford or Southampton for their chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, which is extremely exhausting.

"The facilities that will be provided by the new centre will not only be able to provide these treatments, but it will also be able to provide a range of complementary and support services to help patients and their families through this challenging time. We’re looking forward to supporting the charity and making this centre a reality.

"The dedication and care everyone at Ark has is inspiring, and with cancer affecting so many people, for many employees this is a matter close to their hearts.”

Merv Rees, Ark Cancer Centre Charity trustee, said: “Everyone involved in Ark Cancer Centre Charity is delighted and grateful for the show of support from AXA Wealth employees. To have the backing of staff at one of Basingstoke’s leading and award-winning companies is a significant boost for the charity and the cancer treatment centre project. This support will help to raise awareness, as well as funds for the £5 million appeal.”

AXA Wealth is already planning some fundraising events for 2016, ranging from raffles and cake bakes to a team challenge due to be held later in the year.
