Belgian choir and Rotary on song for Ark

A special concert by an award-winning Belgian choir will deliver some Autumnal musical magic to Odiham and boost the coffers of a charity helping to fund a much-needed local cancer treatment centre.

All Saints’ Church in Odiham will be the splendid setting for the concert of popular and light classical music by internationally-renowned Belgian choir Lyricanto.

This special event has been organised by The Rotary Club of Odiham and Hook and is being generously sponsored by The Rotary Club of Colfontaine-Borinage in Belgium.

The Saturday, November 4 concert will support Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s £5million appeal which is raising funds for the much-needed unique local cancer treatment centre that will serve the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) area.

Howard Swalheim, president of The Rotary Club of Odiham and Hook, said: “The choir has won many awards in Europe, and we are indebted to our Rotary friends in Belgium for organising this event which will see the choir perform for the first time in the UK.

“The programme is very varied and will include such works as Ave Maria, Memory, from the musical Cats, and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, as well as several well-known operatic arias.

“The Rotarians are delighted to be supporting Ark’s fundraising campaign, and we look forward to a memorable evening of marvellous music in support of a very good cause.”

Tickets for the 7pm concert, which are already selling fast, are £20 and include a glass of wine at the interval. They are available from Trees Newsagents, in Hook, Katherine Jane, in Odiham, and from Howard Swalheim. Howard can be contacted on 01256 703299 or h.swalheim@btinternet.com.

Ark Cancer Centre Charity trustee Merv Rees said: “The charity is very grateful to the Rotarians and the choir for putting on this very special concert.”
