De La Rue kick off Ark fundraising for 2018-19

Staff at De La Rue have held the first of their fundraising events in support of Ark for 2018-19.

The Summer Picnic event, which took place in 'The Street' of De La Rue's Viables headquarters, saw many of the 500-strong team come along to buy books, plants and take part in a raffle, with all of the proceeds raised going to Ark.

Ark was chosen as the De La Rue head office Charity of the Year for 2018-19 following a staff vote, and the charity is delighted to have received this significant show of support.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications for Ark, was joined on an Ark stand by De La Rue bid writer Alison Reijman, who nominated the charity after hearing about its mission to raise £5million to help build a new Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust cancer treatment centre in Basingstoke.

Mark said: "Ark is very grateful to the De La Rue staff for their show of support, and particular thanks go to Alison for championing the charity through her nomination. I was delighted that she was able to join me on the Ark stand at the July 5 event, and it was great to chat to many members of the De La Rue team about the charity and cancer treatment centre project.

"De La Rue is a community-focused company and the staff have done great work in supporting charities and other good causes in the Basingstoke area in recent years.

"The De La Rue head office team have a great opportunity to make a telling difference to Ark in terms of raising funds for, and awareness of, the charity and the cancer treatment centre project over the next 12 months, and I look forward to publicising, and supporting, the team's efforts as they put on events and get involved in other fundraising activities."

Established over 200 years ago, De La Rue work with governments, central banks and commercial organisations around the globe in three core areas - Cash Supply Chain, producing banknotes; Citizen Identity including passports and identity management; and Product Authentication protecting brands and fighting counterfeiting.
