Fun and fundraising at Charity Day

Locks were lost but pounds were added as staff at two of Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s Our Partner corporate supporters held a special fundraising day.

Staff at sister companies Easy as HGV Ltd and HGV Driver Training Centre Ltd are supporting Ark as one of their Charities of the Year for 2018, and they held a special Charity Day to boost the coffers.

A dress-up or dress-down opportunity and a bake-off competition helped to raise money and employee Nick Lake went the extra mile by losing his hair in a sponsored head shave.

General manager Darren Lucas said: “We had a fun time raising money for Ark and are delighted that the Charity Day resulted in £528.70 being collected.”

Easy As HGV Ltd and HGV Driver Training Centre Ltd are family-run businesses based in Fleet, and are two of the largest HGV/LGV training companies in the UK.

During 2018, colleagues at both firms are taking part in various events and activities that will help to raise funds for, and awareness of, Ark and its £5million appeal in support of a much-needed unique local cancer treatment centre that will be built at Basingstoke hospital and will serve the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) area.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “Ark is grateful for the support from the teams at Easy as HGV and HGV Driver Training Centre, and the charity is delighted to have them on board as Ark Our Partner corporate supporters.”

While the cancer treatment centre is largely being funded by HHFT, Ark’s £5m will ensure that a range of complementary therapies and supportive services are available alongside radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments in a calm and uplifting environment.
