Jackie is on a mission to be Ark's queen of the jungle

Charity champion Jackie Wicks is on a mission to conquer a jungle challenge and raise a four-figure sum as she embarks on her latest fundraising adventure in support of a good cause.

From November 2-10, Jackie will be taking part in the Dream Challenges Britain V Cancer quest which will see a group of people trek through stunning jungles and traditional Cambodian villages on route to a spectacular finish line at the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat.

Veterinary receptionist Jackie, who is self-funding the journey, is aiming to raise at least £1,000 for Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s £5million appeal to help fund a new cancer treatment centre in Basingstoke.

The 48-year-old mum, from Goodman Close, Basingstoke, is well on her way to reaching her goal after holding a series of fundraising events, including a quiz night and cake sales, and she has been well-supported by her employer GP Vets, of Worting Road, Basingstoke.

Intrepid Jackie likes to take on an adventurous charity challenge every other year, and she has raised thousands for good causes on journeys that have seen her travel to various places, including along the Great Wall of China and through the Grand Canyon.

She said: “I always try to find a local good cause to support, and I am delighted to be raising funds for Ark Cancer Centre Charity this time.

“We all know someone who has been affected by cancer, and this particular challenge is taking place under the Britain V Cancer banner, so it is really fitting that I can support Ark.”

It will certainly be hot, hot, hot as Jackie and her fellow trekkers complete the challenge in temperatures that will be above 30 degrees centigrade and where the humidity level will be up to 90 per cent.

Jackie said: “I know that this will be a tough challenge but I am looking forward to the experience, and to making a difference to a good cause, and I hope that the friendship and camaraderie will be as good as it has been on other challenges that I have taken part in.”

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications for Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “Ark is grateful to Jackie for her wonderful support. She has been training hard for this jungle trek, and she has done a great job in raising funds throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who supports Jackie, and the charity, on this latest challenge”
