Movie music magic hits the right note

Two marvellous choirs and a string quartet delivered an Oscar-worthy night of Music from the Movies magic – and a delighted audience responded with a generous show of support for the charity that benefitted from the concert.

All Saints' Church, in Southern Road, Basingstoke was the super setting for last Saturday night’s concert starring Basingstoke Hospital Male Voice Choir (BHMVC), Ooh Mama and string quartet 4tissimo.

Legal eagles soar to charity success

They are amazing supporters of Ark Cancer Centre Charity – and the fantastic team at Clarke & Son Solicitors have now set their sights on reaching a £50,000 goal as they continue their fundraising into a third year.

The well-known Basingstoke law firm, based in Winchester Road, was one of the first Our Partner corporate supporters of the fledgling charity in February 2015 – and the legal eagles also supported Ark’s £5million appeal, which will help to fund a unique local cancer treatment centre, in 2016-17.

Richard reaches his marathon fundraising goal

He achieved a marathon milestone – and now Basingstoke dad Richard Pilbeam is celebrating reaching his fundraising goal.

Months of training and hard work paid off for the 39-year-old father-of-two as he completed the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday, April 23 in an impressive time of 4 hours, 36 minutes and 56 seconds.

And now the keen Basingstoke Town FC supporter has done the double by hitting his target of raising £1,000 for Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

Curtain up time looms for Music from the Movies

Ark Cancer Centre Charity has been superbly supported by some of our local choirs - and on May 13, two groups will be sharing star billing at a Music from the Movies charity concert.

All Saints' Church, in Southern Road, Basingstoke will be the marvellous setting for the free-to-attend concert starring Basingstoke Hospital Male Voice Choir and Ooh Mama.

Music from Disney, Bond, and Les Misérables are among the treats in store for the audience who come along to the concert, which will start at 7.30pm.

Fabulous LEJOG 14 get in gear for Ark

They are 14 super cyclists who are set to embark on an epic ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats – and for the team leader, completing this amazing feat will be a particular personal triumph.

On May 13, Jonathan Hobby and 13 fellow riders will set off from the end of the country in Cornwall and head north on a nine-day 930-mile ride to the Scottish landmark at the other end of Great Britain.

Richard's marathon success for Ark

Delighted dad Richard Pilbeam is celebrating becoming a marathon man after a marvellous and memorable run saw him pile on the miles and pull in the pounds for Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

Months of training and hard work paid off for the 39-year-old father-of-two as he completed the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday in an impressive time of 4hours, 36 minutes and 56 seconds.

And as well as clocking up a great time on his marathon debut, the keen Basingstoke Town FC supporter is closing in on his goal of raising £1,000 the good cause.

Ark to Arc launch party pulls in the pounds

There was a real party atmosphere at the Ark to Arc launch night – and the fun evening resulted in a fabulous fundraising boost. 

The Tea Bar, in London Street, Basingstoke, was the venue for the Ark to Arc celebration event – and the generous support of auction bidders and raffle ticket buyers saw £4,400 raised.

Winklebury Cycles kindly donated a bicycle that attracted a £600 bid, and an ipad, donated by the Champion Group, and a mini rugby ball signed by England World Cup winner Jason Robinson, and donated by Vitality UK, also pulled in the pounds.

Ark supporter Natasha wins top award

Congratulations to the wonderful Natasha Watts - the fabulous Ark Cancer Centre Charity Supporter has been crowned as the Best UK Soul Artist at a prestigious awards event.

Natasha was presented with the award at the Soul Survivors Magazine Awards - and her triumph was made even sweeter by the fact that the category winner was voted for by the public.

Natasha, who is a long-standing supporter of the charity, said: "I am totally overwhelmed to have been recognised as one of the best UK Soul artists.
