Cycling The Way of The Roses

Dawn Nicholson, local cyclist and Ladies Captain at Test Valley Golf Club, completed The Way of the Roses in the Yorkshire Dales over four days from 19th July. Here is her diary:

I set out on a gorgeous day in July with 3 friends and a kindly support driver to cycle the coast to coast route from Morecambe to Bridlington via the Yorkshire Dales.  Officially 170 miles from start to finish.

Basingstoke Golf Club

A big thank you to every member of Basingstoke Golf Club who gave their support and donations towards the £5,000 that we have received from the Club. This is a fantastic amount which is very much appreciated.

Local author donates proceeds of book

Local author Tony Corbin held a book signing for his newly published book ‘Fall of the Dice’ at Waterstones Basingstoke on July 9th 2013. All proceeds from the book sales will benefit local charities and Tony’s raffle on the night of the launch also benefitted our charity.

Triathlon

Not to be deterred by the cancellation of his original choice of triathlon (the Lake District), Sam Ward completed his event in Stowe, Gloucestershire on the hottest day of 2013 so far (Sunday 7th July). Swimming 1500m followed by a 56km cycle and a 10km run to complete the event, Sam’s hard effort and generous support from his friends and family was matched by his company (Brit Services) who doubled the amount that he raised. Thank you.

Arch to Arc Triathlon

We are so proud of Rachel Hessom who has successfully completed the Arch to Arc Triathlon: an 87 mile run from London to Dover; a swim across the English Channel and a 181-mile cycle to Paris. We are delighted that she has completed it safely and especially as she is raising funds for the charity. If you are thinking of doing a similar challenge, read on for Rachel’s thoughts during preparation and the event itself. It’s inspirational (if not a little crazy!)

Midsummer Soiree

A Midsummer Soiree was held at The Barn at Upper Cranbourne Farm in Sutton on 22nd June 2013. The evening began with an illustrated talk by Lady Young about her father, the sculptor Oscar Nemon and, after the interval, was followed by a concert given by Hannah Medlam, soprano, Lukas Medlam, violin and David Owen Norris, piano. Over £4,000 was raised during the evening, which was introduced by Merv Rees.

Sherfield-on-Loddon Fete

Ark Cancer Centre Charity was delighted to have been chosen to receive some of the funds raised at the Sherfield-on-Loddon annual fete on Saturday 8th June 2013. Merv Rees was invited to open the event, so after being a part of the grand opening parade, he welcomed everyone to the event before taking a look round many of the stalls.
