Abseiling for our cancer centre

A big thank you to everyone who abseiled down the side of Basingstoke Hospital and helped raise some money for our Charity. Organised by Shopmobility in Basingstoke, this annual event sees individuals challenge themselves for Charity - amazing!

Sponsored Gymathon

A big thank you to Pearl Evans who took on a 13-hour exercise challenge to raise hundreds of pounds. Pearl, 66, walked, ran and cycled over three days to raise cash towards the cancer treatment centre.

Pearl said: “This is a cause that is close to my heart as I've lost family members and friends to cancer and can only imagine how difficult it must be to travel miles when you feel so unwell.” Pearl, who works at J&K Care Specialists, in New Street, Basingstoke, took on the challenge at Aspects of Fitness, based at Scrapps Hill.

Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

Our thanks to the team from Barclays Asset Finance who took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge (24 miles, 3 peaks totalling 2,142m). Starting in the early hours of Saturday 14th September the team of 7 completed their challenge. Read on to feel inspired…

During the early hours of Saturday 14th September a team from across Asset Finance were taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge (24 miles, 12 hours and 3 peaks - 2142m in height). The challenge was in aid of a new Cancer Treatment Centre which is due to be built in Basingstoke.

Local Garden Party

Local Ellisfield resident, Doreen Lonergan, opened her garden to friends and family to help raise funds for the Charity. Despite the bad weather on the day, the event was a great success, with help provided by the Ellisfield Ladies Club.

Farleigh House Charity Ride

Thank you to everyone who took part in this unique ride in the grounds of Farleigh House which covered 7.5 miles around the Farleigh Estate which is not normally open to the public. The event supported three local charities and we were privileged to have been chosen as one of them.

Ark Sailors - Fastnet Race

Thank you to surgeon Jonathan Blanshard and his crew for raising funds for us when he took part in the Fastnet race - sailing 608 miles in the Irish Sea for five days non-stop!

Cliddesden Coffee Morning

Carolyn and Mandy Gifford very kindly held a well-attended coffee morning and cake sale in Cliddesden Village Hall on 8th April 2013. Lots of locals turned out to enjoy the home-baked cakes provided by the community.

Cycling The Way of The Roses

Dawn Nicholson, local cyclist and Ladies Captain at Test Valley Golf Club, completed The Way of the Roses in the Yorkshire Dales over four days from 19th July. Here is her diary:

I set out on a gorgeous day in July with 3 friends and a kindly support driver to cycle the coast to coast route from Morecambe to Bridlington via the Yorkshire Dales.  Officially 170 miles from start to finish.

Basingstoke Golf Club

A big thank you to every member of Basingstoke Golf Club who gave their support and donations towards the £5,000 that we have received from the Club. This is a fantastic amount which is very much appreciated.

Local author donates proceeds of book

Local author Tony Corbin held a book signing for his newly published book ‘Fall of the Dice’ at Waterstones Basingstoke on July 9th 2013. All proceeds from the book sales will benefit local charities and Tony’s raffle on the night of the launch also benefitted our charity.
