Book is final chapter in Sitting With Jane story

It was the most high-profile event in the Jane Austen 200 celebrations in Hampshire – and now a special souvenir book has been produced as a lasting memento of the Sitting With Jane project.

A Wild in Art event, delivered by Destination Basingstoke and in association with Festival Place, thousands of people enjoyed going around the Sitting With Jane public art BookBench trail between June 17 and August 30 – and the popularity of the benches, which celebrated the life of local author Jane Austen, was reflected in a very successful charity auction.

Just a month to go before Atomic Rapture rock the Apollo

They are a great tribute band - and now Atomic Rapture are set to perform Blondie classics at a special charity night that will help Ark.

Saturday, January 13, 2018 is the date for the diary as Atomic Rapture perform live at the Apollo Hotel in Basingstoke.

A night of fabulous music is in store for everyone who comes along to the concert, which will raise funds for Ark and Help For Heroes - two charities that are supported by drummer Dave Taylor and colleagues at leading Basingstoke-based company Centerprise International.

Rotary concert will help the Ark

Good music and good causes are set to be a winning combination as a rousing annual charity concert raises the rafters and pounds at a world-famous Basingstoke venue.

The Anvil is the perfect place to see and hear great music being performed, and on Sunday, January 28, 2018, The Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane will be hosting another fabulous and memorable event at the award-winning concert hall.

The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines will be centre stage as they entertain the audience by playing their way through an impressive, and wide-ranging, repertoire.

The future of the Cancer Treatment Centre - a message from Merv Rees

“Ark Cancer Centre Charity launched in 2012 with the goal of raising £5million to help fund a much-needed unique local Cancer Treatment Centre to serve people in the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) area. Achieving that goal is as important today as it was five years ago.

“Thanks to the wonderful support of the public, Ark Cancer Centre Charity has so far raised more than £1.5m towards the £5m target – a tremendous, and humbling, achievement.

Ark supporter Jane appears on Pointless

She's a great supporter of Ark Cancer Centre Charity - and tonight, BBC MasterChef 2016 winner Jane Devonshire is aiming to raise the profile of the charity on national TV.

Jane is appearing with 2015 MasterChef winner Simon Wood on a special celebrity TV winners edition of the popular BBC general knowledge quiz show Pointless.

If Jane wins, she will be raising the profile of, and money for, Ark as her chosen charity on the BBC1 show, which airs at 6pm and is presented by Alexander Armstrong and co-host Richard Osman.

Charity Race Night is odds-on winner for Ark

Ark Cancer Centre Charity was the winner as two Basingstoke businesses joined forces to put on a fundraising Charity Race Night.

Metro Bank Basingstoke, which has a store in Festival Place, and Lamb Brook Solicitors, based in Winchester Street, Basingstoke, teamed up to organise the fundraising event at Basingstoke Golf Club – and there was a great show of support from the local business community.

Ark Cyclists raise £60K from LEJOG17

An awesome group of cyclists are celebrating after raising £60,000 for a cancer charity by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats (LEJOG).

On May 13, the Ark Cyclists set off from the Cornwall landmark and headed north on a nine-day 965-mile ride to the Scottish landmark at the other end of Great Britain.

Some of the riders did particular legs of the journey and seven completed the whole ride – an amazing achievement for all of them, but particularly for team leader 51-year-old Jonathan Hobby, who underwent treatment for lymphoma last year.
