Phoenix three pile on pedal power for Ark

A team from Ark Cancer Centre Charity Our Partner supporters Phoenix Wealth are gearing up for a one-day bike ride to Birmingham to pull in more pounds for the charity.

The Basingstoke-based staff at Phoenix, formerly AXA Wealth, have been supporting Ark as their Charity of the Year during 2016 and 2017, and the latest fundraising feat will see three members of the team piling on the pedal power next Wednesday.

September 13 is ‘Cycle to Work’ day, a national event which encourages everyone to take to two wheels and cycle to work on at least one day.

As part of the Phoenix Super Hero Charity Challenge, Ali Cuthbert, Dave Deadman, and Simon Daunter, will be riding from the Phoenix Wealth office in Basingstoke to Phoenix’s Wythall office, just south of Birmingham.

Simon said: "Covering over 100 miles in the day, the peloton will be made up of riders from both Phoenix Wealth and the Phoenix Group, aiming to cover the distance fast enough to get to Wythall before the office closes!

"We are delighted to be raising money for Ark Cancer Centre Charity, Phoenix Wealth's chosen charity in Basingstoke.

"The charity will be receiving matched funding from Phoenix Wealth, but we are encouraging our generous supporters to also ensure that they also opt in for ‘Gift Aid’ if eligible to do so, to ensure that the value of their donation is maximised."

Simon added: "On the day, there will also be an opportunity for Phoenix staff to challenge themselves by riding segments of the ride on stationary training bikes with the aim of covering the equivalent distance of 100 miles, on a relay basis, before the ‘live’ riders finish our own ride.

"We also have one or two other fundraising ideas in mind to help us maximise the funds for this worthwhile cause."
