Plucky Danielle hits her target for Ark

Plucky Danielle Taylor showed true grit as she took on a tough walking challenge and reached her fundraising goal in support of a local cancer charity.

Twelve months ago, Danielle decided to take on the South Coast Challenge to support Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s £5million campaign to help fund a much-needed cancer treatment centre in the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) area.

Unfortunately, Danielle tore a ligament in training and had to withdraw from the event – but 12 months on, she was determined to take on the fundraising feat.

The going certainly got tough as Danielle was dogged by injury during the walk but she managed to battle her way to 60km before the event organisers insisted that she should call a halt for her own health and safety.

While she wasn’t able to walk as far as she wanted, Danielle was delighted to go the 60km distance and hit her £400 fundraising target.

Danielle, who is a solicitor in the family team at Paris Smith Solicitors in Winchester, said: “The big walk for this event is 100km along the South Downs from Eastbourne to Arundel, and it had to be completed within 33 hours.

“It certainly was tough going, and sadly, due to injury, I was forced to retire after 60km. The event organisers were fantastic and always had the welfare of all the participants at heart.

“I am still pleased to have walked 60km, which is around 38 miles, and I would like to thank everyone who has sponsored and supported me. It made the gain worth the pain.”

Danielle, 27, still hopes to add to her fundraising total as she seeks to raise as much money as possible for the charity, which is helping to fund the new cancer centre that will help and support cancer patients and their families, including people in and around the Winchester area.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “Well done to Danielle, who showed great determination on this fundraising feat. The charity is grateful to her, and her sponsors, for their support and we hope she recovers from her injury soon.”
