Sylvia's business birthday party helps Ark

There was a great turnout as family, friends and clients celebrated a milestone for a popular Basingstoke businesswoman whose company really lives up to its name.

Basingstoke Rugby Club’s Down Grange clubhouse was the venue for a party to mark the fifth anniversary of HR that Helps, which is run by Sylvia Goddard.

Sylvia has over 25 years’ experience in the human resources industry, and five years ago she decided to set up her own consultancy.

Since making that momentous decision, Sylvia’s business has gone from strength to strength and she is much in demand to provide practical and commercially-orientated advice on all aspects of managing people. This includes contracts of employment, dispute resolution, performance and absence management, and compliance with the law.

Sylvia, who works out of an office at Absolutely Offices, in Chineham, said: “After five years of assisting businesses with HR consultancy and advice, I felt like it was time to celebrate the past and look forward to the future with a fantastic fifth birthday bash.

“I was delighted that so many family, friends and business clients came along to enjoy the party, and I was pleased that the event also provided an opportunity for me to support Ark Cancer Centre Charity, which is raising £5million towards a much-needed cancer treatment centre at Basingstoke hospital.

“A caricaturist and magician as well as fizz, food and and amazing cake all added to the fun, and a well-supported raffle, which had some great prizes donated by generous sponsors, meant that £500 was raised for Ark.”

The party came at the end of another busy day for Sylvia as she handled her work commitments and was also a sponsor at the Champion Group Charity Golf Day, which also supported Ark.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, thanked Sylvia for her support and congratulated her on her career achievements and the success of her business.

He said: “Sylvia’s business has been a success from the start and that is no surprise to anyone who knows her and has benefited from her expertise. HR that Helps really sums up Sylvia and her approach to people and business – and as well as running a busy business, she is a great supporter of local good causes, including Ark.”
