A mile of burpees!

Personal trainer Matt Smart has every right to enjoy putting his feet up at Christmas after taking on a gruelling physical feat to help Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

Matt, 39, who runs Smart Health & Fitness, did a mile of burpees on Sunday, December 20 a challenge that saw him complete 767 burpees and cover the mile-long course in one hour and four minutes.

The Lost Marbles complete their challenges

Thanks to the fab team from Clarke & Son for completing the third of their fundraising feats in aid of Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

A team of staff from the law firm, in Winchester Road, Basingstoke, have come together to raise as much money as possible by taking part in various physical pursuits throughout the year.

The teams for the various challenges are made up of Support Staff, Solicitors and Partners, collectively named “The Lost Marbles”.

Boot Camps for Charity

Thank you to local personal trainer Matt Smart who organised a series of boot camps with donation to be made to Ark Cancer Centre Charity. Matt, who was inspired by Merv Rees at a presentation at a local networking group, also challenged himself to complete 300 burpees in 30 minutes after his final class on 18th December. Sponsorship poured in and Matt (not surprisingly) completed the challenge. Thank you to everyone who lost pounds (lbs) and raised pounds (£) in aid of the charity - over £800 was raised - a fantastic result.

Aspects of Fitness Gymathon

Thank you to all the members of Aspects of Fitness gym who took part in or donated to the fantastic target raised by Bryan and the team. With the donations being doubled by findmeagrant, over £3,000 was raised.

A World Record in aid of The Ark

A huge thank you to Dave Holby and Mike Brydges who not only broke two world records but raised money for us too!

Starting at 9am on Thursday 6th March 2014 in Festival Place, Basingstoke, they began their attempt to break two tandem indoor rowing records - the current 24 hour 20-29 lightweight record of 316.6km and the current endurance 20-29 lightweight record of 24 hours.

Triathlon

Not to be deterred by the cancellation of his original choice of triathlon (the Lake District), Sam Ward completed his event in Stowe, Gloucestershire on the hottest day of 2013 so far (Sunday 7th July). Swimming 1500m followed by a 56km cycle and a 10km run to complete the event, Sam’s hard effort and generous support from his friends and family was matched by his company (Brit Services) who doubled the amount that he raised. Thank you.

Arch to Arc Triathlon

We are so proud of Rachel Hessom who has successfully completed the Arch to Arc Triathlon: an 87 mile run from London to Dover; a swim across the English Channel and a 181-mile cycle to Paris. We are delighted that she has completed it safely and especially as she is raising funds for the charity. If you are thinking of doing a similar challenge, read on for Rachel’s thoughts during preparation and the event itself. It’s inspirational (if not a little crazy!)

Ark Cyclists

Ark Cyclists

Great support has been shown from Basingstoke surgeons and consultants. Orthopaedic Surgeons Jonathan Hobby, Toby Briant-Evans and Kevin Conn, Anaesthetist Chris Seifert and Cardiologist Jason Glover plus a number of friends competed in the amateur race stage of the Tour de France on Sunday 7th July 2013. Just two weeks before the professional cyclists arrived; they all successfully cycled L’Etape du Tour in Annecy, which is 128km with over 3000m of climbing in six categorised climbs.
