Taking the town by Storm

The fundraising Force was strong in Basingstoke's Festival Place at the weekend as nearly £1,300 was raised for Ark Cancer Centre Charity at a special Star Wars event.
Generous visitors to Festival Place put donations in collection buckets in exchange for having a photo taken with Stormtroopers and other characters from the popular UK Garrison.

The UK Garrison - one of the foremost Star Wars costuming groups in the UK who have appeared at thousands of events over the last 15 years  - were a massive hit with the public in Festival Place throughout the weekend, with hundreds of people keen to have photos taken with iconic Star Wars characters, including Darth Vader and Princess Leia.

Mark Jones, said: "This was a terrific two days for the charity, and I am so grateful to the wonderful UK Garrison members and the team at Festival Place, our fantastic volunteers, and the generous members of the public who supported the Star Wars Stormtrooper Parade event. I would also like to thank our great volunteers, including many from the Basingstoke Deane, Basingstoke and Basingstoke Loddon Rotary Clubs, for their outstanding support. It has been so impressive to see so many people giving up their time to help the charity's £5million fundraising appeal, and it is great that their hard work has been rewarded with this fundraising success."
